The following figurative language are included in this escape room: simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia, allusion, idiom, & hyperbole. In each activity, the figurative language is defined in the margin of the slide. I also made short videos explaining allusions, idioms, & hyperboles.
Figurative Language Rooms:
Room #1- Similes & Metaphors – Students complete a drag & drop activity by dragging the phrases into the appropriate column. Then they add up all the similes and metaphors- this is the code they enter each number into the Google Form in order to move on.
Room #2 – Alliteration, Allusion, Personification, & Onomatopoeia- Students watch a short video on allusion. Then they complete a drag & drop activity by dragging the phrases into the appropriate column. Next, students go to an image of an example of one of the types of figurative language used in this activity. The answer to the example provided is the code to move on to the next room.
Room #3 – Idioms & Hyperboles – Students watch a short video explaining idioms and hyperboles. Then they complete the activity which is in Google Sheets by reading questions in the “Read Questions HERE” tab. They must determine if the phrase is an idiom or hyperbole. Each time they answer a question, a piece of an image is revealed. Once all questions are answered correctly, students see the whole image which shows an example of one of the types of figurative language used in this activity. The answer to the example provided is the code to move on to the next room.
Room #4 – Review of Figurative Language in Pop Songs – Students identify the type of figurative language examples found in the lyrics of pop songs in 8 multiple-choice questions. The answer to each question will be the code they enter on the Google Form. If they get the answers correct, they will escape!
